I used to think success was about chasing the next milestone.
The next job. The next title. The next paycheck.
I was moving fast, but I wasn’t grounded. I was chasing position without direction.
Truth is, I didn’t really know what I believed in.
I had preferences, not principles.
I had goals, but no guiding truth.
And eventually, that caught up to me.
I remember a season where everything looked good on paper…
I had certifications on the wall.
A tool box worth more than my car.
A title with the word “Master” in it.
But I felt empty.
Not because I didn’t work hard, I did.
Not because I wasn’t respected, I was.
But because I had no internal compass. No core. No why.
I was letting outside validation tell me who I was, instead of living by what I knew to be true.
The point is… if you don’t define your values, the world will do it for you.
And it’ll lie to you.
It’ll tell you that your worth is in your job.
That leadership is about power.
That being a man is about dominance, not discipline.
I had to learn the hard way that core values aren’t optional.
They’re the blueprint.
They’re the foundation that everything else is built on.
If your values are shaky, your future will be too.
So what do you believe in?
That’s not a surface-level question. It’s the question.
What’s your non-negotiable?
For me, everything changed when I rooted my identity in Christ.
Not in performance. Not in people’s opinions. Not in productivity.
When I got serious about who I was becoming, not just what I was achieving, my values started to shift:
- From ambition to assignment
- From selfish drive to servant leadership
- From fear of failure to faith in God’s plan
My blueprint now?
- God first. His Word is my standard. Period.
- Lead yourself. If I’m not disciplined, I can’t expect to lead others.
- Serve your family. Provide. Protect. Be present.
- Build community. Use your gifts to lift others. We weren’t meant to do life alone.
- Pursue growth. Stagnation is a slow death. We’re called to multiply.
What I’ve learned is this:
Your values are your filter.
They shape how you spend your time.
They decide who you allow in your circle.
They guide your response when life punches you in the mouth.
You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your values.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
– Matthew 6:33
That’s the anchor for me.
If you’ve been drifting, maybe it’s time to sit down and define your blueprint.
What do you believe in?
Where are you headed?
What principles are you building on?
Because life isn’t about speed, it’s about direction.
And direction comes from values.
Want help building that foundation? You’re not alone. I’m walking this journey too.
Let’s recalibrate. Let’s lead better. Let’s live on purpose.
