I remember when my whole vision for life was centered around a Yamaha R1.
Not changing the world.
Not building generational wealth.
Not being a present father or a strong leader.
Just a bike.
Sleek, fast, loud. I saw it in my head before I ever touched the throttle.
And because I had that vision, I made the kind of choices that would make it real. I worked overtime, stacked cash, and rode off the showroom floor like a scene out of a movie.
But here’s the part nobody talks about:
That “dream” ended up costing me more than just money.
It came with debt.
Risk.
Distraction.
No plan past the dopamine hit of acceleration.
It didn’t pull me toward growth. It just scratched an itch for status.
That’s when I started asking:
“Is this vision really serving me?”
Your Vision Is Shaped by What You See
The truth is, your vision doesn’t come out of thin air. It’s shaped by the people and environments you allow to influence you.
Parents. Teachers. Bosses. Friends. Music. Culture. Social media.
We all inherit some version of a future “go to school, get a job, retire.” But have you ever paused and asked:
“Did I choose this? Or did I settle into it?”
Most people are just surviving.
Some are chasing status.
A few break through to seek purpose.
And listen, survival-mode is real. I’ve been there.
But you weren’t made to live on autopilot.
You were built for vision.
What’s Your Vision Built On?
Let’s be real for a second…
If your vision is just about flexing on Instagram or proving a point to people who don’t even matter anymore, that’s not vision, that’s validation-seeking.
And if your “plan” is to just make it through the week without losing your mind then maybe it’s time to zoom out.
Ask yourself:
- What would my life look like if I was operating from purpose, not pressure?
- If time and money weren’t an issue, what would I wake up and do every day?
- What kind of legacy do I want to leave behind for my kids? My community?
The point is: you can’t keep making long-term impact with short-term vision.
How to Start Shaping a Vision That Serves You
When your vision is clear, your decisions get sharper. You stop chasing trends and start building truth. Here’s how that starts to look:
🔘 Clarity in Vision
You see the destination. That picture becomes your filter for decisions.
🔘 Time Management
You stop wasting hours. You prioritize what gets you closer to the goal.
🔘 Lifelong Learning
You become a student again not because you’re lacking, but because you’re leveling up.
🔘 Financial Planning
You align your money with your mission. That means budgeting for both growth and joy.
🔘 Associations
You get serious about who’s in your circle. Because if they’re not aligned, they’re a liability.
Your Vision Will Evolve And That’s Okay
The R1 was my vision for a season.
It taught me something.
But it also showed me what happens when vision lacks depth.
Now? My vision is bigger than me.
It’s about creating impact.
Pouring into young leaders.
Breaking generational cycles.
Living in alignment with God’s purpose for my life, not just chasing hype.
And yes… some of that vision still scares me.
But that just means I’ve got growing to do.
And growth is the point.
Final Word
If you don’t know what you want long-term, you’ll keep making decisions that rob your future to serve your present.
So today I challenge you to sit down, get quiet, and ask God to show you a bigger picture.
Then write it down.
Talk about it.
Adjust your habits.
And let your decisions reflect the life you’re building, not the one you’re trying to escape.
Proverbs 29:18 (MSG)
“If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; but when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.”
Let’s stop stumbling. Let’s start building.

If this hit home for you, share it with someone who’s been feeling stuck. You might just help them catch a vision too.
